Setting The Standard For Quality Care at Darby Glenn

Novmeber 21, 2022
In November, we celebrate Long-Term Care Awareness Month. The goal of this national holiday is to highlight the long-term care needs of men and women over the age of 65. Darby Glenn’s staff, being part of the long-term care community, work hard every day to ensure older adults receive the level of care they need. By leading with a Culture of Care, our team strives to make a difference, one resident at a time.

It is no question that there is a growing stigma surrounding nursing home care in our country today. We want to be the leading example of quality care for the older population to end this stigma.

National Long-Term Care Awareness Month was founded in 2001 by the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. It began as an initiative to get people to focus on long-term care awareness. It's important for seniors to have a plan ready for the future as they age. Bringing awareness to long-term care has made it easier for seniors to access the resources they need to make informed decisions for their care.

Life is not over when entering long-term care. At Darby Glenn, we work very hard to maintain a welcoming, bright, and comfortable home for seniors to thrive. We pride ourselves in our philosophical approach of person centered-care. Each resident is treated as an individual, not a patient.

As part of our person-centered care, there is a wide array of activities in which each resident can participate. There are plenty of opportunities for our residents to socialize. Whether that be participating in activities, including balloon tosses or drum circles, enjoying some ice cream during a happy hour event, or listening to one of the live performances we host every Friday. Our staff works to keep the environment fun and friendly. This month, residents had the chance to ride the Darby bus to Bob Evans to enjoy a warm breakfast. Previous months have included trips to Texas Roadhouse, the Casino, the State Fair, or the occasional Walmart run. Our team is always open to suggestions on ways we can bring fun-friendly entertainment to our residents.

There are many teams that work together to help make Darby Glenn feel like home. We encourage residents to bring decorations and furniture from home to help ease the transition into long-term care. There are also different holiday parties and events residents can invite their families to join.

We want our residents to feel safe, cared for, and heard. A Social Services team is available five days a week. They ensure that every resident is advocated for and all families are supported. The Dietary Team strives to serve hot meals to our residents three times a day and hear their feedback at monthly food council meetings. Our in-house Dietician works to ensure residents are getting the correct diet and addressing any nutrition concerns. A dedicated Business Office Manager is available to serve the residents as a financial liaison, assisting with the Medicaid application and answering any insurance questions residents may have. The Housekeeping and Laundry Team works to ensure the facility is kept spotless, resident rooms clean, and clothes fresh. Darby Glenn is beyond thankful for the effort all of our departments put into making this a wonderful place to live for our residents.

Our in-house Therapy Team works alongside residents to ensure they are progressing and meeting their therapy goals. Our Restorative Therapy program allows long-term residents to receive therapy at their baseline. The team is able to forge strong relationships with residents, assisting the clinical team with care. Altogether, our team works to provide the best care for our residents.

This month is meant to bring awareness to long-term care and the ways we as a community can come together to support the elderly population. If you have a loved one in a nursing home, please consider visiting them.

It is never too late to start looking into long-term care options for you or your loved ones. Schedule a tour to see if Darby Glenn is the right fit for you or a loved one!
