Bringing Joy and Spreading Christmas Cheer in Long-Term Care
December 22nd, 2023 The holiday season is a time for spreading joy, love, and goodwill. What better way to embrace the spirit of Christmas than bringing cheer to those who need it most? Darby Glenn’s staff has spent this December spreading Christmas cheer throughout the facility. We wanted to highlight ways we have come together as a community to give our residents an amazing Christmas.
We started December by decking the halls and turning our building into a Christmas Wonderland. Our activities team and multiple staff members decorated with trees, Santa Claus, and snowmen; filling the halls with red, green, and white! Not only did it transform the environment but it also lifted the spirits of all who live and visit Darby Glenn.
Engaging residents in interactive activities that embrace the Christmas Spirit can be both enjoyable and therapeutic. Our residents had the opportunity to create all sorts of fun holiday crafts this year. They decorated Gingerbread Men and made Christmas cookies. The Girl Scouts in Hilliard and the Hope Squad from Weaver Middle School joined them in creating these fun activities. Groups of Christmas Carolers stopped by to sing all sorts of Holiday Songs. Nothing says Christmas like the sound of carolers singing classic Holiday tunes. We are so lucky to be part of such an amazing community that is willing to dedicate their time to our residents
We couldn’t celebrate Christmas without a Holiday Party for the residents! Everyone had such a great time eating delicious food, listening to live music, and passing out gifts to their Secret Santa. One of our residents even dressed up as Santa Claus for the occasion. This party began our countdown to Christmas, with every staff member dressing up in a different Christmas theme each day. From Holiday PJ Day to Ugly Sweater Day, the staff at Darby Glenn had so much fun dressing up for our residents.
Spreading Christmas cheer in long-term care is a beautiful way to celebrate the season of giving and compassion. Everyone had so much fun celebrating. By providing fun-filled, nostalgic activities, we are ensuring that our residents have a wonderful Christmas.
